shut up and wait a minute… [more proverbs]

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger…”

- James 1:19

“The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but hte mouth of hte wicked pours out evil things.”

- Proverbs 15:28

“If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.”

- Proverbs 18:13

I’m trying to think of how often I speak without waiting and assessing for a second…

I do this too often and, most often, it is entirely regrettable. I usually say something ridiculous or offensive making myself out as a fool of sorts.

The book of Proverbs is filled with references to listening before you speak, and for good reason. So, give it a shot this week. Listen to others before you start talking. Odds are, you’ll find out that your conversations may go a lot more smoothly.

Get to know new people rather than blabbing about yourself. Ask questions, listen to the answers – soak it in. You can never hope to help someone if you haven’t first listened to where they are to begin with.

And, if you’re reading this, and you know me; hold me to this – as it is, I often fail miserably at listening.

That’s it for now.

…idle is bad [Proverbs 19:15]

Proverbs 19:15 – “Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.”

This person will be hungry for love, joy, peace, passion, Godliness, knowledge and anything else good you can imagine.

Idleness will slowly starve a person into a spiritual death.

…Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep…

This is how it goes, as you become lazy in your walk you will begin to sleep through it altogether.

Slotfulness, idleness… it’s all bad. Anyway, it’s late and I’m tired – just thought I would share.
